Hardwood flooring in Los Angeles

On a slab, we recommend engineered hardwood glued down or floated after a moisture test; over a raised wood subfloor, nail-down engineered or solid hardwood. Our 9.5-inch European white oak project in Los Angeles is a good example of a wide engineered plank with a thick 4 mm wear layer. For methods, subfloors and stairs, see our hardwood floor installers in Los Angeles page.

Engineered hardwood and European white oak in Los Angeles

European white oak is the floor Los Angeles homeowners ask about most, from 7½-inch planks to 9½-inch boards like the one in our Los Angeles project. Our catalog includes engineered white oak from many makers; we bring the ones that fit your rooms and budget to compare in your light.

Staircases & stair treads

Many Los Angeles homes still have carpeted stairs between hard floors. We install hardwood treads and risers planned with the new floor, as on our Granada Hills project, and for laminate and vinyl we use the stair nosings the collection offers, subject to product availability.

Laminate flooring installation in Los Angeles

Laminate suits bedrooms, offices, family rooms and rentals where a scratch-resistant wood look matters more than refinishing later. Laminate projects can include new MDF baseboards in a choice of profiles.

Laminate has a wood-fiber core under a hard, scratch-resistant surface and usually installs as a floating click floor. Water resistance varies by collection, so we show you each product's rating and warranty terms before you choose.

Luxury vinyl plank installation in Los Angeles

Luxury vinyl plank and SPC are our usual recommendation for kitchens, laundry rooms, baths and homes with pets, because the vinyl core does not swell from surface water.

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and rigid-core SPC have a vinyl core that does not swell from surface water. The installed floor still is not floodproof, and the subfloor has to be flat and dry for the click joints to hold.

How flooring installation works in Los Angeles

  1. Removal. We take out carpet, tile, laminate or old wood and haul it away; removal is a separate line in your estimate.
  2. Flatness check. The subfloor is checked against the flooring manufacturer's flatness tolerance. High spots are ground or sanded and low spots filled with a compatible patch or leveler.
  3. Moisture testing. Concrete slabs and wood subfloors are tested with the method the manufacturer requires before anything is installed.
  4. Installation method. Nail-down over plywood, glue-down or floating over concrete, or click-together floating floors for laminate and vinyl, matched to the product's instructions.
  5. Transitions and baseboards. We plan thresholds and reducers between rooms and either reinstall your baseboards or install new MDF baseboards in a choice of profiles.

At the in-home visit we bring samples, measure every room and staircase and check the subfloor; you get a written quote afterward, or a quote on the spot if you want one. See how shopping at home works. More on floor removal and subfloor preparation and our flooring installation service.

Materials only, or materials with installation

Buy your flooring from us and have our team install it, or order materials only for your own contractor. If you have already bought flooring, ask us about installing it.

Stairs are quoted with the floor: hardwood treads and risers, or stair noses for laminate and vinyl when the collection makes a matching part. We confirm what is available for your floor before you order.

What matters for floors in Los Angeles

Start from the subfloor you have

Much of Los Angeles sits on concrete slabs; older and hillside houses often have raised wood subfloors. That decides the method: engineered hardwood glued down or floated on a slab, or nail-down hardwood over plywood. We check moisture and flatness at the visit and recommend from what we find.

Real projects inside the city

Our recent jobs in Los Angeles include 9.5-inch engineered European white oak with a 4 mm wear layer, 7½-inch European white oak with solid stair treads stained to match in Granada Hills, and wire-brushed European white oak in Sherman Oaks. Each project page shows the floor and the details.

One written quote for the whole job

Removal, subfloor preparation, installation, stairs, baseboards and transitions are quoted together, so you can compare options side by side. If you want a price at the visit, we can often quote on the spot.

Los Angeles flooring questions

Do you serve my part of Los Angeles?+

We work throughout the City of Los Angeles, from the north San Fernando Valley to the Westside and Downtown, and in nearby cities. Book a free estimate and we confirm your address when we schedule.

Do you have a showroom in Los Angeles?+

No. We are a shop-at-home business: we bring samples to your home, so you can see them next to your cabinets, walls and light.

Which floor is best for a Los Angeles home on a concrete slab?+

Engineered hardwood, waterproof laminate, luxury vinyl and SPC can all go over concrete. Solid hardwood generally needs a wood subfloor. We test the slab's moisture before recommending a floor.

Can I buy materials only?+

Yes. You can buy flooring with installation or materials only. If you already bought flooring, ask us about installing it.

Why don't you list prices online?+

Pricing depends on the product, square footage, subfloor prep and stairs, so we quote each home individually. Call for pricing or book a free estimate.
