About this project
This remodel runs one continuous 7½-inch European white oak floor through the entire home, from the kitchen and two-story great room to the game room, primary suite, every bedroom and the walk-in closet. Keeping a single wide plank throughout, with no thresholds breaking it up, makes the open plan feel even larger and ties the whole house together.
The staircase was converted to solid white oak treads, which we custom stained to match the color of the floors, then paired with crisp white risers. The treads read as part of the same floor, so the downstairs and upstairs connect seamlessly.
European white oak is our most requested hardwood in Los Angeles. Its tight grain and light, natural tone suit modern and transitional homes, and wide planks like these show off long, clean boards across big rooms.
