Hardwood flooring and installation in Manhattan Beach

Engineered or solid hardwood?

Both are real wood. Solid hardwood is one piece of wood through its thickness and is nailed to a wood subfloor; it can be sanded and refinished several times. Engineered hardwood is a real-wood top layer bonded to a cross-layered core, which moves less with humidity and can be glued down or floated over concrete slabs as well as installed over plywood.

What we recommend in Manhattan Beach

Beach-area homes in Manhattan Beach are a mix of slab and raised wood floors. Engineered hardwood is the common choice near the water, glued, floated or nailed depending on the subfloor.

Engineered hardwood and European white oak in Manhattan Beach

Light European white oak with a matte or oiled-look finish is the dominant choice in Manhattan Beach remodels and new builds. We recommend engineered construction this close to the water for stability.

Staircases & stair treads

Beach-area homes are often three stories on narrow lots, which means long stair runs. We install matching oak treads and risers or waterproof stair nosings to suit the floor.

Laminate flooring installation in Manhattan Beach

Laminate is popular for rentals and family rooms, especially with a textured surface that hides sand scratches. Use waterproof-rated lines near entries.

Laminate has a wood-fiber core under a hard, scratch-resistant surface and usually installs as a floating click floor. Water resistance varies by collection, so we show you each product's rating and warranty terms before you choose.

Luxury vinyl plank installation in Manhattan Beach

Waterproof luxury vinyl plank suits kitchens, baths and entry levels in beach homes, and rental units where durability matters most.

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and rigid-core SPC have a vinyl core that does not swell from surface water. The installed floor still is not floodproof, and the subfloor has to be flat and dry for the click joints to hold.

How flooring installation works in Manhattan Beach

  1. Removal. We take out carpet, tile, laminate or old wood and haul it away; removal is a separate line in your estimate.
  2. Flatness check. The subfloor is checked against the flooring manufacturer's flatness tolerance. High spots are ground or sanded and low spots filled with a compatible patch or leveler.
  3. Moisture testing. Concrete slabs and wood subfloors are tested with the method the manufacturer requires before anything is installed.
  4. Installation method. Nail-down over plywood, glue-down or floating over concrete, or click-together floating floors for laminate and vinyl, matched to the product's instructions.
  5. Transitions and baseboards. We plan thresholds and reducers between rooms and either reinstall your baseboards or install new MDF baseboards in a choice of profiles.

Narrow lots and limited street parking mean we plan delivery times and staging with you. More on floor removal and subfloor preparation and our flooring installation service.

Materials only, or materials with installation

Buy your flooring from us and have our team install it, or order materials only for your own contractor. If you have already bought flooring, ask us about installing it.

Stairs are quoted with the floor: hardwood treads and risers, or stair noses for laminate and vinyl when the collection makes a matching part. We confirm what is available for your floor before you order.

What matters for floors in Manhattan Beach

Built for sand

Grit acts like sandpaper. Matte and textured finishes, along with rigid-core SPC, keep floors looking good between refinishes.

Stable in salt air

Engineered hardwood resists the cupping and gapping solid wood can show near the ocean, especially in homes with doors often open.

Light, natural tones

Pale oaks and soft greige tones suit coastal light and hide sand better than very dark floors.

Manhattan Beach flooring questions

Which floor handles sand best?+

Rigid-core SPC resists scratching most. In real wood, a wire-brushed matte engineered oak disguises wear far better than smooth or glossy boards.

Is solid hardwood OK near the beach?+

It can work with good climate control, but engineered hardwood is the more forgiving choice for coastal homes.

Do you come out to the South Bay?+

Yes. Manhattan Beach is part of our service area for free in-home estimates.

Is laminate or luxury vinyl better near the beach?+

Luxury vinyl is waterproof and the safer choice for entries, kitchens and baths. Laminate gives a very realistic wood look and is better suited to bedrooms and living areas away from wet feet.

Do you handle condo underlayment rules?+

Yes. Send us your building's rules and we choose an underlayment with the required sound rating.
