Hardwood flooring and installation in San Marino

Engineered or solid hardwood?

Both are real wood. Solid hardwood is one piece of wood through its thickness and is nailed to a wood subfloor; it can be sanded and refinished several times. Engineered hardwood is a real-wood top layer bonded to a cross-layered core, which moves less with humidity and can be glued down or floated over concrete slabs as well as installed over plywood.

What we recommend in San Marino

Older San Marino homes often have raised wood subfloors, so solid hardwood that can be refinished for decades is a real option, alongside engineered oak for additions and slab areas.

Engineered hardwood and European white oak in San Marino

In San Marino remodels, European white oak in moderate widths or herringbone often suits period architecture better than very wide boards. We bring options from several makers to compare.

Staircases & stair treads

Period homes often have original wood staircases. We restore treads where possible and replace damaged ones in matching species and stain.

Laminate flooring installation in San Marino

Laminate is mainly used in San Marino for guest houses, offices and rentals where a lower-cost, scratch-resistant floor makes sense.

Laminate has a wood-fiber core under a hard, scratch-resistant surface and usually installs as a floating click floor. Water resistance varies by collection, so we show you each product's rating and warranty terms before you choose.

Luxury vinyl plank installation in San Marino

Luxury vinyl plank is a good fit for laundry rooms, utility areas and pool houses where water resistance matters more than refinishing.

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and rigid-core SPC have a vinyl core that does not swell from surface water. The installed floor still is not floodproof, and the subfloor has to be flat and dry for the click joints to hold.

How flooring installation works in San Marino

  1. Removal. We take out carpet, tile, laminate or old wood and haul it away; removal is a separate line in your estimate.
  2. Flatness check. The subfloor is checked against the flooring manufacturer's flatness tolerance. High spots are ground or sanded and low spots filled with a compatible patch or leveler.
  3. Moisture testing. Concrete slabs and wood subfloors are tested with the method the manufacturer requires before anything is installed.
  4. Installation method. Nail-down over plywood, glue-down or floating over concrete, or click-together floating floors for laminate and vinyl, matched to the product's instructions.
  5. Transitions and baseboards. We plan thresholds and reducers between rooms and either reinstall your baseboards or install new MDF baseboards in a choice of profiles.

When new hardwood meets original floors, we plan transitions and stain samples so the two read as one house. More on floor removal and subfloor preparation and our flooring installation service.

Materials only, or materials with installation

Buy your flooring from us and have our team install it, or order materials only for your own contractor. If you have already bought flooring, ask us about installing it.

Stairs are quoted with the floor: hardwood treads and risers, or stair noses for laminate and vinyl when the collection makes a matching part. We confirm what is available for your floor before you order.
