Both are real wood. Solid hardwood is one piece of wood through its thickness and is nailed to a wood subfloor; it can be sanded and refinished several times. Engineered hardwood is a real-wood top layer bonded to a cross-layered core, which moves less with humidity and can be glued down or floated over concrete slabs as well as installed over plywood.

Yes. Quoting them together lets the treads and stair noses be planned with the floor; wood varies by batch, so expect a close coordination rather than an identical match.
Which floor works on a concrete slab?+
Engineered hardwood, laminate and luxury vinyl plank can all go over concrete after a moisture test. Solid hardwood generally needs a wood subfloor.
