Hardwood flooring and stairs in Pacific Palisades
In our Pacific Palisades project we ran one light, wide-plank engineered hardwood floor from the living room across a two-story entry, then finished the curved staircase in matching treads and risers. Whether you are remodeling or rebuilding after the 2025 fire, we bring samples to your home or site, measure every room and stair, and quote materials and installation, or materials only.
Popular here: Wide-plank engineered European oak, curved and straight stair treads and risers, herringbone, waterproof vinyl plank for secondary rooms.

Hardwood flooring and installation in Pacific Palisades
Engineered or solid hardwood?
Both are real wood. Solid hardwood is one piece of wood through its thickness and is nailed to a wood subfloor; it can be sanded and refinished several times. Engineered hardwood is a real-wood top layer bonded to a cross-layered core, which moves less with humidity and can be glued down or floated over concrete slabs as well as installed over plywood.
What we recommend in Pacific Palisades
Engineered hardwood is what we installed in our Palisades project, glued down or floated on slabs and nailed down over plywood as the manufacturer allows. Wide planks need a flat, dry subfloor, so we test moisture and check flatness first.

Engineered hardwood and European white oak in Pacific Palisades
Light, natural-tone wide planks suit the bright, tall rooms common in the Palisades; the floor in our project shows the look in a two-story entry. We bring European white oak samples in several widths so you can compare them in your own light.
Staircases & stair treads
Stairs are quoted with the floor. For a curved staircase each tread is cut to its own shape; our flooring collections offer matching or coordinating stair-nose solutions, subject to product availability, and we can provide custom hardwood treads. See the Pacific Palisades staircase project.
Laminate flooring installation in Pacific Palisades
Laminate suits guest rooms, offices and rentals where a scratch-resistant wood look matters. Laminate projects can include new MDF baseboards in a choice of profiles.
Laminate has a wood-fiber core under a hard, scratch-resistant surface and usually installs as a floating click floor. Water resistance varies by collection, so we show you each product's rating and warranty terms before you choose.
Luxury vinyl plank installation in Pacific Palisades
Luxury vinyl plank and SPC suit laundry rooms, baths, garages converted to living space and pool-side rooms.
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and rigid-core SPC have a vinyl core that does not swell from surface water. The installed floor still is not floodproof, and the subfloor has to be flat and dry for the click joints to hold.

How flooring installation works in Pacific Palisades
- Removal. We take out carpet, tile, laminate or old wood and haul it away; removal is a separate line in your estimate.
- Flatness check. The subfloor is checked against the flooring manufacturer's flatness tolerance. High spots are ground or sanded and low spots filled with a compatible patch or leveler.
- Moisture testing. Concrete slabs and wood subfloors are tested with the method the manufacturer requires before anything is installed.
- Installation method. Nail-down over plywood, glue-down or floating over concrete, or click-together floating floors for laminate and vinyl, matched to the product's instructions.
- Transitions and baseboards. We plan thresholds and reducers between rooms and either reinstall your baseboards or install new MDF baseboards in a choice of profiles.
Remodel or rebuild, the visit is the same: samples, measurements of every room and stair, a subfloor check, then a written quote or a quote on the spot. More on floor removal and subfloor preparation and our flooring installation service.
Materials only, or materials with installation
Buy your flooring from us and have our team install it, or order materials only for your own contractor. If you have already bought flooring, ask us about installing it.
Stairs are quoted with the floor: hardwood treads and risers, or stair noses for laminate and vinyl when the collection makes a matching part. We confirm what is available for your floor before you order.

What matters for floors in Pacific Palisades
Floors and stairs planned together
On our Palisades project the floor runs up a step-down landing and across the entry to a curved staircase. Curved stairs have treads of different shapes, so each tread and riser is measured and cut individually and the nosing follows the curve.
Engineered wood near the coast
Wide planks are made as engineered hardwood because the cross-layered core moves less with humidity than a solid board of the same width. It is still wood, not a waterproof floor, so we check moisture before installing and follow the manufacturer's acclimation instructions.
Installing during a remodel
Our Palisades floor went in while the kitchen remodel around it continued. That works when the sequence is planned and the new floor is protected from the trades that follow; we decide transitions and the cabinet order with you at the estimate.
Working in Pacific Palisades
- The neighborhood is part of the City of Los Angeles, so permits and inspections run through LADBS.

Pacific Palisades flooring questions
Can new stairs match my new hardwood floor?+
Usually. Treads, risers and stair noses are finished in a matching or coordinating wood and finish; wood varies by batch, so expect a close coordination rather than an identical match.
Is a curved staircase harder than a straight one?+
It takes more time, because most treads are a different shape and each is cut individually. Curved stairs are quoted step by step.
Is solid or engineered hardwood better near the coast?+
For wide planks, engineered. Its cross-layered core moves less with humidity.
Can I buy materials only?+
Yes. You can buy flooring with installation or materials only.
