New hardwood floor installed in a Los Angeles primary bedroom

Sometimes there is original hardwood under the carpet. If there is, we check whether it can be refinished before quoting new floors.

How it works

  1. 1. Check under the carpet

We lift a corner at the estimate when possible to see what is underneath.

  2. 2. Remove carpet and pad

Carpet, pad, tack strip and staples removed and hauled away.

  3. 3. Fix the subfloor

Squeaks re-fastened, low spots leveled, moisture tested.

  4. 4. Install and convert stairs

New floor installed and carpeted stairs converted to wood treads.

Hardwood, laminate or vinyl?

Hardwood gives you a floor that can be refinished. Waterproof laminate and luxury vinyl plank cost less in many cases and handle pets and spills well. Many homeowners choose hardwood for living areas and a waterproof floor for kitchens, laundry rooms and kids' rooms. See laminate vs. luxury vinyl.

Carpeted stairs

Stairs are often the part people notice most. We replace carpeted stairs with solid treads stained to match the new floor, or with matching nosings when the floor is laminate or vinyl. Stair treads and staircase remodeling.

Cost factors

Total cost depends on the floor you choose, square footage, subfloor repairs, the number of stairs and whether risers are painted or stained, plus baseboards and transitions.
